Position: Senior Backend Engineer (Java & AI)
As an early engineer at Simplotel, you will be responsible for directly interacting with customers, understanding requirements, designing and implementing product features and shipping them. You will work on key functionality including booking and search engines, template engines, rules engines, distributed systems, high availability and scalability, user management and AI-powered product capabilities.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Design and build high-performance, scalable and maintainable backend services in Java and Spring Boot, with clean APIs and solid test coverage.
Contribute to and evolve existing Python/Django services, including migrations of selected workloads to Java.
Build AI-powered product features including LLM-backed workflows, RAG over hotel and content data, agentic automations and intelligent assistants, taking them from prototype to production.
Define prompts, evaluation criteria, and guardrails for AI features, and measure quality, latency and cost in production.
Use AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Copilot and similar tools as part of the daily workflow while maintaining a high standard of code quality and review.
Work closely with front-end engineers and product managers to understand requirements and translate them into robust technical designs.
Implement new features and proactively optimise existing code and queries.
Build integrations with third-party systems such as payment gateways, channel managers and AI/LLM providers.
Own services in production, including debugging, monitoring, performance tuning and incident response.
Mentor junior backend engineers on design, code quality, and effective, responsible use of AI tools.
Required Skills:
5+ years of backend engineering experience, with deep, demonstrable experience building web applications in Java.
Strong command of core Java, concurrency, collections, and the JVM.
Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem, including building RESTful JSON APIs.
Strong SQL/MySQL skills, including schema design, query optimisation, and understanding of indexing.
Working knowledge of Python, with Django experience being an advantage, or clear ability and willingness to work across both stacks.
Practical experience building with LLMs and generative AI, including model APIs, prompt design, RAG, embeddings, vector stores or agent frameworks.
Proven productivity with AI coding assistants, along with the judgement to know when to trust, verify, or reject their output.
Expert problem-solving skills, algorithms, and data structures.
Ability to understand and reason about complex, distributed systems and their architecture.
Comfortable working on Linux/Ubuntu, proficient with Git and familiar with AWS fundamentals.
Good understanding of web technologies and strong backend debugging skills.
Self-motivated and organised, with the ability to handle deadlines and drive improvements.
Good to Have:
Experience migrating services from Python to Java or working with polyglot backends.
Exposure to Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, or similar technologies.
Experience with Docker, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
Prior experience in travel, hospitality, or high-traffic e-commerce.

Business Development Manager - Mumbai – Consultative Selling.
Simplotel is looking to hire a Business Development Manager, in a full-time capacity, who can sell our offerings to large hotels. This is an opportunity to join a company on the ground floor and become a part of the early growth. If you are passionate about selling internet technologies, you will thoroughly enjoy this position. An ideal candidate would be someone who is in Presales and wants to explore a Business Development Role.
Responsibilities:
- Develop plans and strategies for developing business and achieving the company’s sales goals.
- Meeting with hoteliers and potential prospects on a regular basis to build and nurture relationships.
- Cold calling; connecting with multiple potential prospects.
- Working with large hotels and partners across the country.
- Follow up on marketing leads, as well as expand business from the company’s existing client base or partners.
- Build strong brand relationships.
- Building pipelines with partners and team members to close sales.
- Provide detailed and accurate sales forecasting.
Skills Required:
- 1 - 4 years of work experience in technology pre-sales (e-commerce preferred in both domestic and international markets).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Very high ethical standards.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and unpredictable work hours.
- Proven track record of meeting revenue targets.
- MBA required (preferably from a top school).
