Shruti Shibulal-Led Hospitality Company Leverages Tech, Work Culture To Expand Global Footprint
Tamara Leisure Experiences is an award-winning hospitality brand based out of Bengaluru (India) with properties across southern India and Germany. Its mission is to harmonize people, planet and profit within a new model of responsible hospitality — one where exceptional experiences are delivered with warmth and where business growth acts as an engine for the wider good.
Mukut Chakravarti, VP of Sales & Marketing at Tamara, says, “The company’s philosophy of sustainable and responsible hospitality along with creating memorable experiences for guests has been the foundational reason for our success over a relatively short time frame. Our hotel chain began as a real-estate development company under its flagship property The Tamara Coorg. Just one decade later, Tamara’s portfolio has grown to include four brands and properties both owned and managed across India and Germany.
Tamara’s India portfolio of hotels includes:
Tamara Resorts: A luxury chain with properties in Kodaikanal and Coorg. Earlier this year, the most recent Tamara Resort, Amal Tamara opened in Alleppey, Kerala. This property is the group’s new foray into luxury wellness.
O by Tamara: This is an upscale business hotel operating in Trivandrum and more recently in Coimbatore.
Lilac Hotels: A mid-segment brand, with two hotels in Bengaluru.
Thanks to the company’s background in technology through the Shibulal family, Tamara Leisure Experiences has integrated data-driven decision-making into all facets of its business development and operations. At a formative stage, the technological infrastructure was founded upon a proprietary ERP system (GPM) — created by the company’s Chairman S D Shibulal. GPM is a centralized project management program that greatly reduces or eliminates email exchange and brings transparency to project management that ranges from projects to sales, marketing, and financial management at an enterprise level for both employees and partners.
Last year, Tamara decided to partner with Simplotel to grow its direct bookings. Chakravarti says, “The core capabilities are what we love about Simplotel. It offers unique packages, promotions, and tactical hacks for maximizing occupancy. From 1% earlier, Tamara Coorg, for example, receives nearly 6% of its total occupancy through the Simplotel Booking Engine.”
“We value our partnership with Simplotel, which is based on trust and prioritizing the customer. If you consider Simplotel’s well-rounded features such as its synchrony with Google, add-on facilities, and more, Simplotel’s industry-leading Booking Engine provides a complete suite of capabilities that empower us to sell, distribute, and deliver offers while boosting interaction with our customers,” he adds.
“The global hotel industry is increasingly recognizing the importance of technology to drive change and innovation for recovery & future growth. It needs to build an eco-system of collaborators like Simplotel to continue to innovate,” concludes Chakravarti.
